DAY 2   April 12   2011
The second egg hatches out.
Times given are approximate.
 11:30 am.
You can see where the baby is pecking away from inside the shell.
It is the white spot on the upper right side of the egg.
If you could feel it with your finger, you would notice that the
shell is rougher and sticking out a little
at that point, because the baby is pushing it out with his pecking.
The rounder end of the egg is where the air pocket is.
This is the end where the head of the baby is, and where it starts to peck its way out.
If you look inside a hen's egg you will find the air pocket in the rounder end of the egg.
If the air pocket is small, the egg is fresher
- that means it was laid more recently.
The larger the air pocket, the older is the egg.
When the baby is close to hatching, the parents can hear the baby peeping inside the egg.
If you hold a hen egg or a duck egg close to your ear, when it is ready to hatch, you can also hear the peeping.
